Do you fall into bad habits?
Feb 05, 2023For sustainable fat loss it's vital that we change our habits, but how do we do this?
The vast majority of our actions are habitual. Decided at a point in the past and ingrained through repetition so they take less thought, effort and brain power so we can get on with our lives and focus on more pressing areas.
When it comes to fat loss this can hinder people massively.
Look at habits like cassette tapes. When they are placed into the player due to a location, emotion, person or whatever they play the same story, effortlessly on repeat.
For example this week I was working from an airbnb in Rochester which felt a bit like a holiday (cue the "change of location" habit tape / "holiday" habit tape) and my thoughts and actions followed.
A bombardment of thoughts about meals out, trying different restaurants, going for drinks etc etc. On and on it went at a completely subconscious level.
I could interrupt this and focus on other areas but the tape would start playing again and my mind would be swept off.
The difficulty with focusing on habits and fat loss is there are SO MANY component parts to fat loss (early starts, exercising, where to do it, when, what to wear, what to do, how to progress it) and that's before we look at what we eat that it's impossible to consciously manage all of these to an effective, sustainable result. Or at least very difficult.
So developing a "Get out of jail free" card where you can break free from any habit using the same skillset is invaluable.
And this is how I am approaching this, how I can help clients approach this and how I can help you approach this.
By being able to use the same effective approach to all thoughts it means we can break free of these patterns immediately.
I'm not going to lie and say it's easy or 100% successful but as with any new habit the more it's followed the more effective and ingrained it becomes. This is where the ease and the better results come.
I've made a video about how to do this below, if you'd like more details then give it a watch.
